Katowice Miasto Ogrodów,

pl. Sejmu Śląskiego 2,

HS: Children, same as adults, perceive their surroundings in a subjective way. For a mature person an identifier of a good place might be the proximity of public transportation, the amount of places to sit in the shade or the safety of the place. For kids it’s often way less pragmatic – they care if there are good places to climb on and hide, to play in the mud or to slide down really fast.

KM: A city might be a very mysterious and fascinating place for a child. Unaware of complicated operations needed to run a city, they see it in their own way, with a sense of adventure and imagination. Their fresh perspective allows us to see things, we wouldn’t notice ourselves. Let’s allow them to explore the city jungle and remind us to enjoy things, we tend to forget about. We all need a little childlike wonder in our lives, don’t we?

Urban Kids is aimed at the youngest users of public spaces. During the workshop the children will create a huge model of the city, only instead of buildings, streets and squares, they will concentrate on their subjective impressions of various places in the city. Through creative ideas and stimulating insights we will discover a whole new, colorful and imaginative side of Katowice.
